weed control

weed control by Careth LtdWherever your grounds and however they’re landscaped, weeds are an unwelcome sight, and weed control should be high on your grounds-maintenance agenda. Careth Ltd have many techniques for effective weed control, including mulching, ground-cover planting, manual weed removal and chemical weed prevention and control.

Mulching, or covering the surface of the soil with a layer of chipped bark for instance, creates both a visually pleasing surface texture and a weed-resistant environment. The weed resistant effect can be enhanced by planting through black polythene or geo-textile matting prior to laying the mulch. A 30-50mm layer of chipped bark will last for 2-3 years on average, although decorative aggregates can also be used for mulching, and these do not deteriorate.
Planting ground-cover plants such as juniper, cotoneaster and saxifrage can provide attractive and effective weed control although this method requires effective planning and containment to avoid unwanted spreading. Careth Landscaping have the experience to advise and plan your weed-control planting.
Manual weed control is labour-intensive and slow, but sometimes the best method of weed control, particularly in an image-critical landscaped area, such as a prominent area, business entrance etc. Manual weed control can also be combined with litter collection, if this is an issue.
Chemical weed control ranges from preventative spraying with a persistent herbicide of hard landscaped areas to ensure a weed-free area all season, to selective weed eradication, using systemic weedkillers. All our grounds-maintenance staff are fully trained in the safe and effective use of weed control chemicals, and we take pride in being an environmentally aware business.
